Nerve Injuries

Nerve Injury Symptoms

Nerve injuries can result in neurological deficits, which include numbness, slowed reflexes and weakness. These symptoms may radiate outwards from the source and into the arms, legs, hands and feet. Paresthesia, the pins-and-needles feeling that occompanies numbness, may also radiate from the site of injury “downstream” into the arms or legs depending on the injury.

Nerve Injury Treatment

There is a wide range of treatment options available for nerve injuries. The type of treatment will mainly depend on the underlying cause of the patient’s symptoms as well as the severity.

Some surgeries can go through a small incision to remove pieces of tissue or foreign bodies pressing on the nerve. This gives the nerves enough space for them to stop sending pain signals to the brain.

Patients can also undergo neuromodulation, a pain relief strategy that uses small, controlled pulses of electricity through a medical grade wire that can soothe angry nerve endings in the spinal cord. Spinal specialists recommend spinal cord stimulators to patients who suffer from long standing chronic back pain that has not responded to other, more conservative measures.

Spine Specialists use Neuromodulation and spinal cord stimulators to manage different types of chronic pain, including:

  • Back pain
  • Post-surgical pain
  • Injuries to the spinal cord
  • Nerve-related pain
  • Complex regional pain syndrome
  • Pain after an amputation
  • Visceral abdominal pain and perineal pain

Our mission is to help patients to return to work, improve their quality of life, reduce dependence on medication and healthcare providers, and avoid persistent injuries.
